Von Racknitz + Baer Gallery welcomes upcoming artist Jonathan Niclaus to the VRB family and presents his first ever solo exhibition ‘Dickicht’.

A Dickicht (thicket) manifests as a dense, intricately woven space that I comprehend both technically and emotionally. The canvas transforms into a portal: a visual partition, part barricade, part stencil, offering ever-shifting vantages and subsequently obscuring them.

Here, all elements coalesce: they forge a passage through the tangle of wind-swept branches and trunks. Ivory clearings, filtered and refracted by the ever-changing transparencies of leaves. Occasional bursts of pure color disrupt the scene with their stark presence. The application of color shapes overlapping layers, and the gaze flows downward.

Within the sequential arrangement, this exuberant vitality finds its voice through my work. There exists no hierarchy here: foliage, fauna, emotions. Both decay and rebirth coexist harmoniously.

It's as if the mythological forest unfolds within these crystalline, rectangular parcels.
